Welcome to
The Kirschke House
Bed and Breakfast
A Picture of The Kirschke House Centrally located 153.8 rail miles west of Omaha and 137 rail miles east of North Platte in the fertile Platte River Valley, the city of Grand Island was plotted by the Union Pacific Railroad in 1866, and derived it's name from a landmark, 40-mile-long island on the multi-channel Platte River. The early success as a hub of railroad activity secured the city and continued early growth and development. A turn of the Century showplace, the Kirschke House was built in 1902 by the prominent contractor, Otto Kirschke, as his family home.
The vine covered two-story brick home features architectural highlights including a windowed cupola, turret, and stained glass windows over the open oak staircase. The guest rooms reflect the ambience of the exterior, vines and roses, accented with Victorian lace, period furnishings, and antique accessories. Masterfully blended into the Old World atmosphere of the house, the twentieth century luxuries include a wooden hot tub in the lantern lit brick wash house located between the main house and the Carriage House.
Your Hostess' love for cooking and entertaining is reflected in her gourmet as well as down home country cooking, served elegantly in the dining room or served in your room on request. Besides breakfast, which is included in the room rate, other arrangements can be made for other meals, such as our romantic candlelight dinners, disitinctive teas, brunches, meetings, and parties.
